YEP allows the person to connect with an employer for three weeks to develop hands on skills in the industry. Employers have been very receptive to the work experience program as it offers an opportunity for the employers to access the potential of a new employee.

To date, the CCA has had approximately 400 employers register to volunteer their work sites for work experience opportunities.

The process is simple. Start by contacting the Youth Employment Coordinator, at the CCA at (403) 262-4898. At this point an intake interview will be scheduled. During this initial meeting, the Coordinator interviews you to explore career interests, current skill levels, and to discuss educational requirements. You will also receive information on apprenticeship training and occupational profiles will be reviewed.

After this initial screening process, your resume is cross-referenced with information provided by the registered host companies. If there is a match, your resume is forwarded to the company and an interview is arranged. If there is an appropriate match, the work experience can commence immediately.

Gain hands on experience and gain a skill base to help start your career.

The chance to start building a productive career path within
 a rewarding and growing sector.

The opportunity to potentially move into a training or placement opportunity.

Potential to win a scholarship.

In 1999, Construction employed almost 800,000 people (Source: Informatica). That number is growing as people in the construction industry retire; they need fresh, new, young people to replace them. Construction not only offers challenging careers; it also offers great salaries. Just in case you are not convinced, listed below are some possible construction trades and their wage ranges. (Source: Statistics Canada)

Sheet Metal Worker $18-29 hr
Painter $16-26 hr
Carpenter $17-27 hr
