3rd Annual OAEC Workshop

The third annual Owners, Architects, Engineers and Contractors (OAEC) Workshop will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

This workshop is structured to bring all industry partners together in a collaborative environment to interactively discuss practical everyday topics of common interest. Often each partner does not understand the world that the other lives in, why things are done in a certain manner, and the impact of those decisions on others.

Open dialogue encourages the industry to collectively find best practices for common issues.

SAIT Donation Correction

In last week's newsletter we incorrectly stated a $25,000 donation to SAIT was for a Capstone Project. The money was in fact donated to upgrade SAIT's trade training facilities, and purchase materials and tools.

Implementing the Principles of Lean Construction - "A Tool to Providing Predictable and Reliable Workflow" - January 29 & 30

Simply put, Integrated Project Delivery uses lean construction principles in a process-centered approach to developing and delivering a project. "Lean" principles were originally implemented in manufacturing and first "discovered" by experts reviewing and documenting the Toyota Production System. Toyota had shown great success with a new and different type of production line that required each step in the process to produce only what was needed by the next step in the process and to view anything else as waste.

Lean [IPD] supports the development of team work and a willingness to shift burdens along supply chains. Partnering relationships coupled with lean thinking make rapid implementation possible.
