Nominations are Open for 2016 CCA Executive

Nominations for the 2016 CCA Executive are open to the membership. Any person nominated shall have given his/her consent prior to the election. 
Individuals from the CCA membership at large must send in a signed letter noting the individual being nominated along with his or her signature, in addition to signatures from four members who are in good standing with the CCA. 

The letter is to be addressed to:
CCA Nominating Committee 
C/O Calgary Construction Association 
2725 - 12th Street N.E. 
Calgary, AB T2E 7J2

Nominations close at 4:30 PM on Friday, October 30 for the position of Vice-Chair (3) and Secretary Treasurer (1). 

NOTE: Individuals who have served for three years on the CCA Executive as a Vice-Chair are no longer eligible for nomination. 





   
 

CCA Chair's Tour Breakfast Meeting - Wednesday, November 4, 2015

This event is an opportunity to join fellow leaders of the construction industry, to network, learn and hear about the changing face of our industry and your business.

Canadian Construction Association 1st National Vice-Chair, Gil Brulotte, along with CCA Chair, Stephanie Roll will provide insight into what the future holds for construction firms in Calgary and across Canada. Come hear also about: 
  • CCA-National's lobby priorities with the new Federal Government 
  • What is CCA-National's role on Prompt Payment? 
  • What is CCA-National's prognosis for the construction industry in Canada?

Jacqui McFarland is a Senior Interior Designer with Sizeland Evans Interior Design, and a former Instructor and Department Chair of the Interior Design program at Mount Royal University — her 30 year career has encompassed numerous projects, from highly detailed residences to large scale commercial offices.

Topic: 
On Being MacGyver*— How to build an 8,000 square feet luxury residence in 270 days — an Integrated Project Delivery case study.

Jacqui will share a recent highlight in her career: participating in an Integrated Project Delivery model in the creation of a beautifully appointed residence in the seemingly impossible 30 weeks. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a project delivery approach that collaboratively harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to optimize project results.

Looking for Apprentice Candidates?

The Youth Employment Program currently has candidates eager to begin an apprenticeship in the fields of: Electrical, Welding, and Plumbing.

All candidates have gone through a pre-screening interview to ensure they are dedicated to their trade of choice, and are CSTS certified.

Employers have the opportunity to hire youth for a three-week paid work experience term, and can then choose to hire them on full time.

The CCA’s annual publication, The Constructor magazine is underway and will be launched at the CCA Chair’s Tour Breakfast meeting taking place on November 4th, 2015.

ASQ Calgary Quality Conference - November 6

The Calgary section of the ASQ is hosting a Conference this year in Calgary. They have two Keynote speakers and eleven breakout sessions planned for 6 November at the Best Western Village Park Inn. It is an all-day event with the speakers, vendors and a Meet and Greet afterwards, including breakfast and lunch. The ACA leads Alberta's construction industry in government advocacy, public relations, industry practices and partnerships, and promotion of a skilled workforce. 

Alberta Infrastructure School BID Specification Workshop
In recent years, Alberta Infrastructure has shown increased interest in the value of using modular construction to build these facilities, and the Alberta Infrastructure Learning Facilities Division (LFD) has developed specifications for modular-built classrooms and schools under the Modular Schools Program. However, these current specifications impose restrictions that render many builders ineligible and both constrain the competitiveness of the bidding process and deter prospective companies from entering this market.
