RISK MINIMISED IN STANDARD GENERAL CONDITIONS

For several months, CCA volunteers have been meeting with City of Calgary representatives where to review the City’s Standard General Conditions (SGCs). The City has agreed to the CCA recommendation not to use a partially revised SGC document until the two parties come to agreement relative to all the contract terms. This new position will minimise the risk to the construction industry and should help in avoiding unnecessary disputes until The City and the CCA Standard Practices Committee come to agreement relative to the terms of new SGCs.
The City has recently utilised somewhat revised documents on new pilot projects along with a few tenders. However, the City has now indicated that going forward they will refrain from using the new documents until both parties have had an opportunity to review comments in detail and until the documents are in their final form.

Alberta Construction Association News

The ACA and the ECA along with our Alberta local construction association partners are pleased to present this video to members. This video compliments the 2016 Trade Definitions, and offers further insight into the Definitions and their usage.

ACA Chairman Paul Verhesen and a number of others were interviewed for the video which explains the benefits of Trade Definitions. We would ask our members to review both the Trade Definitions and the attached video. Our hope is that the Trade Definitions will continue to be adopted by the Industry, and we encourage our members to both view and share the video amongst their networks.
