Calgary’s First Lean Community of Practice (CoP) Session

Calgary’s Lean Community of Practice (CoP) came together on November 4th for the first “Lean Coffee” session with Carla Ciepliski
(Ternion Results Inc.). One of the great reasons to use a Lean Coffee is to learn and support each other in Lean endeavors in a "free space".
After review of the ‘Lean Coffee’ Process, coffee groups were organized. Each
breakout group hosted a topic of conversation. Three chosen topics were written on colorful sticky notes and posted under subtitles ‘To Discuss’, ‘Discussing’ and ‘Discussed’. Each chosen topic was talked over from most popular to least with a ten minute time limit designated by a time keeper.
After all topics were discussed, each team was asked to reflect on three final questions:

1.What topic provided the most value to you?
2.If there was one action that has inspired you to come today…what would it be?
3.Would you return for another “Lean coffee” session?

In closing, Carla Ciepliski noted that the process of LEAN implantation is based on continuous improvement which is both a company journey as well as an industry journey.

CCA Releases Indigenous Engagement Guide

The Canadian Construction Association
commissioned this guide to help the construction industry engage more effectively with Indigenous companies and communities in Canada. The guide was researched and written by Indigenous Works (formerly the Aboriginal Human Resource Council), an ISO-certified organization that helps companies increase indigenous workplace performance and build successful engagements and relationships with Indigenous people, businesses and communities. The guide provides general information, guidance and insights into Indigenous engagement strategies.

The guide is available exclusively to CCA members. You can access it here.
