New Tool to Educate Owners

CDBI has recently released a new bulletin designed to help owners better understand design-build. Document 105: Design-Build Now 2016 is now available on the CDBI website. This is a great tool for contractors and consultants to give to owners who are considering design-build but want more information.

There are many different project delivery systems that owners may choose. Choosing the right project delivery method is a critical part of the strategic plan that every owner must develop when embarking on a new project. Owners can influence desired results from everyone involved by the way they strategically and proactively plan from the beginning of the project. Among the project delivery methods that owners may choose are traditional design-bid-build, construction management and design-build. Download Document 105

Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP)

STEP is a 4 - 16 week wage subsidy program that provides funding to eligible Alberta employers to hire high school or post-secondary students into summer jobs from May to August.

Last summer, approximately 1,200 employers provided 2,700 students with valuable work experience through the Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP).

This summer, why not give your workforce a boost by hiring a STEP student? Providing a student with meaningful work experience helps bridge the gap between education and the workplace, and sets them up for success in the future. If you are eligible, STEP offers a wage subsidy grant of $7/hour.

Applications are being accepted from January 20, 2017 until February 24, 2017. Check the applicant guidelines and download forms at here.

On January 12 the Government of Alberta announced two new tax credits.

The Capital Investment Tax Credit (CITC) will have three competitive application intake periods, with the first beginning Jan.16, 2017 and ending Feb. 15, 2017.

The Alberta Investor Tax Credit (AITC) will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Intake for the AITC will begin Jan. 16, 2017, remaining open until the annual funding for the program is fully allocated.

Legislation creating the two credits passed unanimously late last year. The credits are expected to support at least 9,000 jobs and add $1.2 billion to Alberta’s GDP.
