OAEC Workshop Feb 28th - GOOD NEWS & BAD NEWS from Dave Smith, CCA President….

I will give you the good news first; we have more architects registered for the upcoming OAEC workshop than any previous year. The not so good news is that the construction industry has 33% fewer registrations! The construction community has ALWAYS led this initiative over the past four years, and I look at this year’s EXCELLENT PROGRAM after 70 volunteers and hundreds of man-hours in planning since July, and I question, what’s up?

I encourage you to register; it will give you the opportunity to connect, collaborate, communicate and create….Chris Davis of RJC noted last year “Fantastic event for the whole industry; reinforces a collaborative approach to project delivery and a great networking opportunity”, and Tim Brown of Alberta Health Services noted in 2016 “Surpassed my expectations, time well spent.”

Register today…and you will build a culture that will Drive Results; you will not be disappointed!
Register on-line or just call Mary at 403-291-3350.

AMBIGUITY BREEDS MEDIOCRITY
Ambiguity – a lack of decisiveness or commitment resulting from a failure to make a choice….to register or not to register.

WHO WILL LEAD THIS INDUSTRY IN THE FUTURE… I encourage you to register and bridge the future by also registering a young construction leader from your business at half price.

“What is the ROI for Lean”?

The ROI for lean training and the resulting implementation is applicable for localized projects that have very specific and targeted gains. Examples: 5S implementation and site layout optimization, a specific improvement project that cuts time spent on a process by 50% or project execution coming under budget and gaining in schedule by 30%. But where Lean is seen as most transformational, is with companies that adopt it as a new mindset for all employees and key business strategy. When people start evaluating their daily activity for what is truly value added vs. what is possibly waste to eliminate (as seen through the eyes of our customer) it opens the door for new ideas and innovations through employee engagement. The gains to the business become exponential.

So we ask you – how much is it ‘worth’ to your company to:

•Have employees more engaged across all roles that reside in the office?
•Have employees surfacing new opportunities, finding waste and offering up improvements?
•Have office staff actively seeking how to better support the field in project execution? Improving information flow, processes, communication and other forms of contact?
•Reduce the lead time and resource time for all office processes by 25-30% which translates to freeing up that time for more value added activity?

The goal for every lean workshop is to convert the mindset of participants to consider lean as a mindset … which means to increase your personal focus on making your role perform better, therefore making the company perform better through maximizing value and reducing waste in multiple forms.

ACEC, CCA Submit Pre-budget Wish Lists to Feds
Michael Atkinson, president of the CCA, addressed the CCA's budget ask when he appeared as a witness before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance on Oct. 27. One of the CCA recommendations, aimed at ensuring Canada's trade-enabling infrastructure can support the "expected increased export growth flowing from the new opportunities created by landmark trade agreements," did not anticipate the election of U.S. President Donald Trump, a noted opponent of multilateral trade agreements.
