Measuring and Enhancing Innovation in Construction Projects

Ahmad Alhomadi,AVS,M.Sc. is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary (U of C), conducting research on innovation in construction projects under the supervision of Dr. George Jergeas. The purpose of this research is to enhance innovation in construction project delivery by developing an assessment tool that helps decision makers to identify, quantify, evaluate, and benchmark innovation levels on construction projects.

As part of the research, he is conducting a web-based questionnaire to seek input from professionals who are currently involved with construction projects.

As a member of the CCA, Mr. Alhomadi would be grateful if you could devote approximately 25 to 30 minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your response will help measure the extent of innovation diffusion in Canadian construction projects. All responses will stay completely anonymous. The researcher will use summary of aggregated data and generic identifiers to ensure anonymity of participants. Participation is completely voluntary and confidential. A summary of the findings from the study will be made available follow the completion of the research.

7:45 AM - 4:30 PM MDT
Calgary Construction Centre

Lean principles are already well established as playing an important role in boosting profits and eliminating waste during manufacturing – but why stop there? Organizations are now rapidly realizing that many of the processes that are slowing down production and causing waste are administrative and are turning to lean to address this. As one lean office expert, who works for TechHelp, explained: "Too often, we look at how to get things done better or faster in the office instead of examining what things we really ought to be doing."
